Spring 2012 Info (for your reference)
*To clarify, the coaching described in the paragraph below is basically FREE and available to all members since your dues cover it. He's eagerly awaiting your email and I'm not joking. Professional coaching is one of the key ways to get fast, and this is a steal...so if you haven't emailed him, DO IT!*
Our new club coach is Matt Ison, a friendly local Baylor Alum, co-founder of the Baylor Triathlon Club, and a pro-eligible triathlete. He will be able to answer all of your questions about the details of training and racing, and organizing these two with a personalized training plan just for you! You have the option of an initial sit-down evaluation and unlimited email contact following that meeting, or can communicate solely through email. Depending on his availability, he may be able to occaisonally observe your running and swimming form on campus. This whole opportunity is included in the price of the $40 dues you have already paid if you are a member, and this is available to you until September. Given that professional coaching generally costs around $100/month, you could say you're getting a bit of a deal! To begin being coached, email Matthew_Ison.
I was just informed by governing bodies that anyone racing Regionals and/or Nationals MUST be annual USAT members...if this applies to you, please become one HERE.
If you don't have a bike, sign up for Bear Cycle! Our very own Allison Hubert teaches one of the classes fom 9-9:45am on Mondays. Learn more here.
Another group to join is the Waco Triathlon Club (WTC). Not mandatory, but necessary to get open-water swim (OWS) experience especially if you want to race Regionals and Nationals...and they are a cool and fun group who love training with collegiates. Memberships are annual expiring Dec.31, so no point in delaying! They have given us a special membership rate of only $10 for a year. Open Water Swims begin in March, and if you have questions about what it's like , contact Jessica_Guest. Join the WTC here.

Training:
If you would enjoy a training partner or would like to participate in team practices (highly encouraged!), post your upcoming workout to the wall of "Baylor Triathlon Club" on Facebook with your contact info or see our own team practices that will be there (including joint group rides with the Baylor Cycling Club). If you're not a member of the group, ask to join! _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
**Note on swimming in the SLC**: Below is a copy of the January lifeguard schedule. I can just about guaran-dog-tee you that if you show up to the pool when there is not a name in the corresponding slot, the pool will most frustratingly be closed. If there is only one name listed for a slot, I highly recommend calling 254.710-SLIC (7542) and ask if there is a lifeguard on duty. If you tempt fate and don't call, and you arrive to find the pool closed as I have many a time, I can't help you. Please bookmark this page, as I will periodically update it for you! (This copy current as of 2/213/2012.
RACING! Reason #2 why Baylor Tri exists...Reason #1 being to introduce to, and educate in, the sport of triathlon. (In case you were curious...I would be)
This is the tentative list of official spring 2012 races.
Frost Yer Fanny Duathlon (Sunday Feb 19) @Denton, TX
The Gut Pak Run (Saturday March 3) @Waco, TX
SMW Collegiate Regional Qualifier (Saturday, March 31) @Grand Prairie, TX
Collegiate Nationals (Whole weekend of April 21 including Dia) @Tuscaloosa, AL
For those not going to Nationals: Banks of the Brazos Adventure Race (Saturday, Apr. 21)
**Regionals/Nationals Caveats**
1. You must first qualify to be a scoring competitor at Regionals. If you cannot go to Nationals,YOU CAN STILL RACE with us at
Regionals, but the chances will be lower that we can cover all of your costs of transportation, lodging, and wetsuit rental (if that
applies). We encourage you to still race with us!
Qualification standards are as follows:
a. Our fastest 7 girls and 7 guys by combined finishing time comprised of the Frost Yer Fanny Duathlon (FYF) plus a time for a 1000yd
swim time trial in the SLC pool should constitute our scoring teams. Results from this race and the mile swim time trial will be
weighted the most heavily in qualifying for the Regionals team. Opportunities to complete the 1000yd swim time trial will be on the
mornings of Fri. 2/17 and Tues. 2/21.
b. Should a member of the team be absolutely unable to compete at FYF, yet still desire to race Regionals and Nationals, they may be
considered based on pace times from either the Fort Hood "Duathlon" or the Dam Duathlon (whichever is better), and will also have
to complete the 1000yd swim time trial. In the case that a member wishes to use the Fort Hood or Dam Du time for qualification,
and the pace times are comparable to an athlete who raced at FYF, the athlete who raced at FYF will have will be counted as the
scoring member for Regionals. The final decision of which of the two is a member of the Nationals team will be determined by finish
time at Regionals.
c. Should a member still wish to compete at both Regionals and Nationals, but cannot meet the above requirements, they may submit an
online result from their best past Olympic-distance (not sprint-distance) triathlon from the past year for consideration. This option
must clearly demonstrate outranking of other teammates in order to be considered. Members using this option will only have their
bike and run pace times considered, and must still complete the 1000yd swim time trial to be considered eligible. Tiebreaking between
ambiguous competitiveness will be decided by Regionals finish time, as in part b.
d. The fastest 7 men and 7 women will represent Baylor Triathlon at Collegiate Nationals in Tuscaloosa, AL.
e. Should a scoring member from Regionals be unable to compete at Nationals, the next available alternate based on the standards above will join the
scoring team at Nationals.
3. MUST be annual USAT members...become one HERE.
4. Regionals is wetsuit mandatory. Especially for our scoring team members, we may be able to subsidize the cost of a wetsuit rental depending on our club budget. However, if you've decided you want to do triathlons regularly, it's time to make the investment HERE
5. Must wear a Baylor Tri uniform at Nationals. If you're interested in Nationals, you probably have one or still need to pick up the one
you ordered. If you do not have one, use the question box at the bottom of the page to ask us about your options.
Reimbursement:
Due to budget constraints, we cannot currently cover all race related costs. Until it is completely exhausted, our racing budget will cover as many costs as possible, excluding food costs. Once funds are insufficient to cover an entire category, the remainder will be used to cover that particular cost to members in the order that they completed the initial "Spring 2012 Info" questionnaire. Here is the list in order of priority:
*(subject to change)*
1. Transportation, Lodging, and race entry fee for Nationals
2. Lodging and race entry fee at Regionals for our scoring team members
3. Lodging at Regionals for our non-scoring team members
4. Lodging at Frost Yer Fanny Duathlon for ALL
5. Race entry fee for non-scoring members at Regionals
6. Race entry fee for all at Frost Yer Fanny Duathlon
7. Cost of wetsuit rental (if needed) for Nationals team members
8. Cost of wetsuit rental (if needed) for scoring members at Regionals
9. Cost of wetsuit rental (if needed) for non-scoring members at Regionals
Should we be able to give any free bike rentals for any races, recipients will be picked in order of having completed the questionnaire and will be individually contacted.
Other Non-club racing events:
Miracle Match Marathon and other distances (Jan. 28 & 29) @ Waco, TX
